Lumberjack Breakfast: Sept. 10

United Way of 1000 Lakes will kick off the Annual Fundraising Campaign with its annual Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 10th on the Old Central School lawn. The celebration has expanded to include lots of Lumberjack fun for all ages, including some fun food-related competitions too. Come enjoy a short stack of pancakes (children and adults alike are sure to love the toppings bar), sausage links, a yogurt, juice and/or coffee, as well as sample bite-size portions of the chefs’ creations.

United Way Announces Emergency Food & Shelter Funds Available

Itasca County has been awarded federal funds through the State Set-Aside process under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP). The program provides assistance for food, utilities and shelter to individuals and families in emergency situations who meet the federal eligibility guidelines.

United Way has been chosen to receive $6,361 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county. Funding is based on poverty and average unemployment statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor for the most current 12-month period. In 2015, the county received $7,519 through the program, which was awarded to Community Café and Grace House.

5-2-1-0 PlayStations

5-2-1-0 PlayStations, a United Way of 1000 Lakes initiative, are installed in six local communities (Bigfork, Cohasset, Coleraine, Deer River, Grand Rapids, and Marble). Boxes are equipped with sporting gear and park art supplies.
